Convocatoria de premioPremio Biogen Idec para jóvenes investigadores en el extranjero Objetivo: Premiar el mejor trabajo de investigación básica desarrollado por jóvenes científicos fuera de España en las áreas de Oncología, Inmunología o Neuroinmunología. Destinatarios: Investigadores de nacionalidad española que habiendo obtenido su doctorado en el año 1998 o posteriores hayan publicado, o tengan aceptada su publicación, un trabajo científico en las áreas antes indicadas en revistas de referencia internacional con posterioridad a Diciembre de 2003. Características del Premio Biogen Idec: * Se otorgará un único premio consistente en 10.000 Euros * El premio será entregado durante la celebración de la XIII Jornada de "Avances en Biología Molecular para Jóvenes Investigadores en el Extranjero" que tendrá lugar en el Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB-CSIC) durante el mes de Diciembre de 2005 y deberá ser recogido personalmente. Bases del Premio: 1. Los candidatos deberán enviar por correo a la dirección <mailto:jovenesinvestigadores@biogenidez.com y jovenesinvestigadores@biogenidec.com o por correo postal al Apartado de Correos nº 36067. 28080 Madrid, la siguiente documentación: * Copia del trabajo publicado o aceptado para su publicación. En este último caso se incluirá también el documento acreditativo de la aceptación por parte de la revista. * Escrito en el que se detalle la participación del candidato en el trabajo presentado y el índice de impacto de la publicación. Este escrito tendrá una extensión máxima de 3 folios, tamaño Din A-4, escrito a doble espacio, por una cara, utilizando como fuente la letra arial y tamaño 11. * Currículum Vitae. * Documento acreditativo de la fecha de obtención del grado de Doctor. * Fotocopia del DNI o documento acreditativo análogo. * Solicitud de inscripción. 2. La fecha límite de recepción de trabajos será el día 31 de Octubre, a las 24:00 horas. 3. El jurado que evaluará y otorgará el premio estará compuesto por seis expertos en las áreas objeto de la convocatoria. 4. El fallo del jurado se hará público el día 11 de Diciembre del 2005 y será inapelable. 5. El premiado presentará su trabajo públicamente durante la XIII Jornada de "Avances en Biología Molecular para Jóvenes Investigadores en el extranjero". Post-Doctoral Research Associate Position in Particle Astrophysics. University of New MexicoNew Mexico Center for Particle Physics The New Mexico Center for Particle Physics seeks applicants for a Post-Doctoral Research Position in Particle Astrophysics to start as early as January 2006. Our research program includes the CDF experiment at Fermilab, the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, and the Pierre Auger (Auger) extreme high energy cosmic ray experiment. Additionally, R&D on atmospheric monitoring and detector calibration for fluorescence experiments is done with the High Resolution Fly's Eye experiment (HiRes) in Utah. The current opening is with our air fluorescence program in Auger. As minimal qualifications applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Experimental High Energy Physics or Particle Astrophysics and have demonstrated a potential for excellence in research. Significant experience with C, C++ and physics analysis are essential. World Conservation Monitoring CentreThe World Conservation Monitoring Centre is the biodiversity information and policy support arm of the UN Environment Programme whose aim is to place authoritative biodiversity information in the hands of the worldís environmental decision-makers in all sectors. An exciting and challenging opportunity exists to lead the Centreís work on protected areas, including management and development of the World Database on Protected Areas, which provides significant input to a range of international conventions and programmes, as well as to the activities of major international conservation NGOs and the private sector. Responsibilities will include: * Overseeing future development and implementation of UNEP-WCMCís work on protected areas in line with the Centreís overall strategy, the needs of the user community, clients and partners. * Strengthening links with existing partners and seeking new partnerships for joint activities and projects focussing on the development of information, assessment and policy tools and products to support decision making, including for key publications such as the UN List of Protected Areas and indicators to support the Millennium Development Goals, the 2010 biodiversity indicators and other similar initiatives. * Overseeing the development and management of the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA) in full consultation with the WDPA consortium, with the aim of: - Developing and implementing a strategy to restructure the WDPA, making it more accessible and function as a core database with links to other information sources. - Developing and improving links with national protected area agencies with a view to increasing the authority, quality and availability of protected areas information. - Initiating a more decentralised approach to information management, so that the WDPA relies increasingly on data inputs at the national level. - Strengthening the ability of the Centre to undertake automatic and manual quality checking of the data and its access at the global level. *Developing project proposals and undertaking fundraising activities to secure funds for future work on protected areas, working closely with the WDPA Consortium Partners and others. The successful candidate will have broad experience of protected area issues and policy at international level and an understanding of how information and information tools can be used to support conservation action. A proven track record in programme development, management, fundraising and marketing / communication is essential, together with fluency in written and spoken English.
