Reseña de libroEn el número 23 de Vivat Academia, correspondiente al mes de marzo de 2001, publicamos un interesante artículo titulado, "Síndrome del acoso institucional", del Catedrático de Psiquiatría José Luis González de Rivera y Revuelta, aparecido en la página WEB "Diario Médico", cuya dirección es: http://www.diariomedico.com Y que reprodujimos integramente, con permiso expreso de la dirección de la revista. Recientemente, el profesor González de Rivera ha publicado un libro sobre el tema, titulado: "El maltrato psicológico. Cómo defenderse del mobbing y otras formas de acoso". Computational Social ScientistGeorge Mason University www.gmu.edu is seeking to hire a social scientist for a tenure line faculty position (Rank Open; Fall 2002 appointment) in support of our new Center for the Study of Social Complexity. The successful candidate should have an on-going interest and demonstrated research in some aspect of complex social systems (e.g. various types of simulation including agent-based modeling , visualization and data mining of social databases) and a record of external funding. PhD in Geography, Sociology or Anthropology preferred (though well-qualified ABD candidates may be considered). This individual will be involved in offering graduate level course work related to mathematical foundations and computational techniques related to the social sciences. He/she will be involved in computational social science project development and related activities including a program in computational social science and professional outreach (such as workshops). It focuses on fundamental, strategic research into individual organisms, populations, ecological communities and ecosystems. More than 200 staff are employed at three centers as well as the head office. The Centre for Estuarine and Coastal Ecology (CEMO) in Yerseke deals with ecosytems in brackish and salt water and the emphasis at the Centre for Terrestrial Ecology (CTO) in Heteren is put on land-based ecology. The Centre for Limnology (CL) in Nieuwersluis focuses its research on freshwater ecology. At the Plant Animal Interactions department there is currently a vacancy for the position of: Researcher (vacancy PDI-020028) For the analysis of European environmental legislation and policy, and the development of integrated policy guidelines aimed at building a coherent European legislation of mining activities. Function-information: The research is part of EC 5th Framework Project ERMITE (Environmental Regulation of Mine Waters in theEU). The researcher will carry out a critical analysis of the ecological concepts used in the European environmental legislation (e.g. Water Framework Directive, Habitats Directive), and the degree in which these are or could be integrated in the environmental management of the mining sector (e.g. by regulators, industry, public health authorities and regional funds administrators). He/she will liase to other partners that are carrying out a survey of the existing legislation on mining activities (IPTS, Seville, Spain) and a review of the concept of environmental liability and its potential applications to the regulation of mining activities (University of Exeter, UK), with the purpose of developing a common analysis of their data and producing a set of integrated guidelines. Function-requirements: Experience, preferably a PhD degree, in a field related to environmental sciences, with sound knowledge of aquatic ecology and experience in its application to policy analysis and/or water resources management. Case studies in Spain and the UK will be considered in the analysis, hence good knowledge of Spanish and English will be a significant advantage.
